As our current Director prepares for a well-deserved retirement later this year, we are taking a proactive approach to hiring. Location: Remote work location with frequent travel throughout Minnesota, Wisconsin, and South Dakota, as well as attendance at national meetings and conferences.

About the Position
SpEd Forms is seeking a strategic and relationship-driven Director of Services. This executive role serves as the primary contact between SpEd Forms and schools across Minnesota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and other states. The Director will be responsible for growing and managing relationships with senior stakeholders, state agencies, and educational bodies. This individual will play a vital role in maintaining and expanding the number of schools utilizing our products, while ensuring our software continues to improve and remains compliant with legal requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Relationship Management & Business Growth
  • Actively retain and expand the number of districts, charters, cooperatives, and education districts that purchase SpEd Forms products.
  • Serve as the ‘face’ of SpEd Forms, conducting regular district visits and building long-term relationships with key school personnel (Superintendents, Head Nurses, Student Support Services staff, etc.) and State Directors of Special Education.
  • Attend and present breakout sessions at key state conferences, including MASE, WCASS, SDCASE, and MREA.
  • Collaborate with the Business Development Manager and Product Managers to assess school needs and stimulate interest in additional products.
  • Manage the successful onboarding of new clients by assisting schools in developing roll-out plans and providing requested training.
  • Partner with districts to manage and execute successful software transitions to SpEd Forms.
  • Utilize social media, events, and other forums to foster the community of SpEd Forms users.

Compliance, Advocacy and Product Enhancement

  • Establish working relationships with State Senators, Agency Heads, and state associations (such as MASE, SDCASE, and WCASS) to advocate for key changes and to understand strategic issues.
  • Monitor proposed Federal and State legislative changes that impact SpEd Forms and provide feedback to relevant stakeholders.
  • Chair the Forms Committees, schedule online meetings, and collect feedback to help prioritize product changes.
  • Draft new forms and amend existing templates to reflect changes in legal requirements and eligibility criteria.

Reporting and Administration

  • Consistently update the CRM system or shared Google Drive workspace with meeting summaries, key action items, and the latest opportunity statuses.
  • Provide comprehensive monthly reports covering client feedback, target pipelines, compliance issues, and strategic recommendations.

Qualifications and Characteristics

  • Special Education Director experience in a school district (and a current, valid Special Education Director’s license).
  • Prior successful experience as a special education administrator and a user of SpEd Forms products.
  • A prior leadership role in the MN Administrators for Special Education is highly desirable.
  • Existing relationships with relevant senior stakeholders are highly desirable.
  • Solid working knowledge of special education due process requirements.
  • Thorough knowledge of federal statutes, state laws, and rules regarding special education services for children (Birth-22) with disabilities.
  • Excellent oral, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strategic thinker with strong execution and implementation skills.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality, adhering to FERPA and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Ability to transport oneself to meetings/schools and carry/set up materials when acting as a vendor at conferences.
  • Hold memberships in MASE, MASA, MREA, SDCASE, SASD, WCASS, and other relevant organizations.
  • Must be an existing resident of Minnesota or South Dakota.
