Welcome! We are currently seeking a strategic and experienced technology leader to join our team as the next Director of Technology. As our current Director prepares for a well-deserved retirement, we are taking a proactive approach to hiring. Our goal is to bring our new Director on board, ideally in mid-June to train directly alongside our outgoing leader. This ensures a seamless handoff, incredible support for our new hire, and zero disruption for the school districts that rely on SpEd Forms every day.

Location: Remote work location with possible travel throughout Minnesota, Wisconsin, and South Dakota, as well as attendance at national meetings and conferences.

About the Role
SpEd Forms is looking for a strategic and highly skilled Director of Technology. This executive-level position is opening up as our current Director embarks on a well-deserved retirement!
In this role, you will oversee all technology operations, establish IT policies and systems, and analyze business requirements to determine technology needs. You will also act as the HIPAA security officer. If you are a tech leader who understands complex web-based projects and is passionate about data security, AI implementation, and customer support, we want you on our team!

What You Will Do:
- Lead the Tech Team: You will oversee the Lead Web Developer and DBA. You will ensure the products of the software development team meet the goals of the SpEd Forms leadership team. You will be responsible for keeping the team curious and making sure we’re not just fixing bugs, but actually learning new ways to build better, faster, and smarter.
- Drive Strategy & Innovation: You will create and implement a technology strategy plan. This includes promoting and guiding the team on AI Policy, Ethics, and Implementation. You will actively identify processes or places where AI and automation can help reduce workflow internally.
- Act as HIPAA Security Officer: You will ensure SpEd Forms complies with HIPAA regulations. You will manage the development and implementation of security policy, standards, guidelines, and procedures to ensure ongoing maintenance of security.
- Manage Infrastructure & Operations: You will maintain a business continuity and disaster recovery plan. You will also manage onboarding, offboarding of new hire tech setup, and hardware lifecycle for employee equipment. You must document all systems and processes to ensure business continuity and process stability across the team.
- Support Our Users: You will oversee the response of technology staff to customer support requests. You will also provide on-site and online customer training as requested or needed.
What You Bring:
- Education & Experience: A Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a closely related field, or at least ten years of relevant experience.
- Technical Leadership: 4+ years of technical leadership experience, combining staff mentorship with a strategic understanding of SQL, JavaScript, PHP, PowerShell, and other web-adjacent languages to oversee complex web-based projects and drive departmental goals.
- Systems & AI Knowledge: Ongoing training in relevant technical fields (e.g., HIPAA, FERPA, SQL, AWS and AI). You must have a working knowledge of server hardware and software.
- Compliance Expertise: You must maintain confidentiality, adhering to FERPA and HIPAA guidelines and regulations. You will ensure compliance for data collection and retention policies, and maintain and ensure compliance with data security standards.
- Exceptional Communication: You must demonstrate good organization skills with the ability to multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines. You will need excellent communication, customer service and phone etiquette skills when dealing with customers.
