SpEd Forms would like to share an important update following the Department of Human Services (DHS) Spring Forum held on Tuesday, April 28th, 2026.
The Forum opened with an acknowledgment from Susan Hammersten, Rates Group Manager, who offered an apology regarding how recent changes were communicated and implemented. DHS recognizes the challenges this created for schools and expressed a commitment to improving communication moving forward.
The most significant update came from Diane Neal, Director of Mental Health, regarding the Provider NPI requirement. Originally scheduled to take effect on September 1, 2026, this requirement has been delayed. While DHS has confirmed that the requirement will still be implemented, a new effective date has not yet been determined.
This delay is intended to provide additional time to address several issues raised, including Speech Therapists’ licensure considerations, Medicare enrollment requirements, and concerns related to the provider agreement form required for MHCP enrollment.
We will continue to monitor DHS communications and let you know as more details become available.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss how this update may impact your organization, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us via the SpEd Forms support request system.
Thank you for your continued support of SpEd Forms!
