Dear Directors,
Because nothing says “welcome back to school” quite like a brand-new billing requirement, DHS has announced that all IEP and IFSP health-related services must be billed using CPT or HCPCS codes starting October 1, 2025. The long-familiar T1018 modifier codes will be retired for dates of service on or after that date. You can read their memo here:
While this is a big shift, we want you to know: we’ve got this. Our team has already met with DHS, and our programmer’s primary focus will be to ensure MA Forms is fully updated in time. Our goal is that providers experience as little disruption as possible—no matter how complex the backend changes may be.
Here’s what you need to know now:
The effective date is for services provided and billed on October 1, 2025 and after. For all IEP and IFSP services, T1018 modifier codes cannot be used for services on or after this date, CPT and HCPCS codes will take their place.
DHS will provide additional training and information; we will share updates and guidance with you along the way.
We’ll continue to keep you informed and supported as details roll out as well as plan additional service provider training once the changes have been made to the system. In the meantime, take a deep breath, enjoy your weekend, and rest assured that SpEd Forms is preparing for the transition so your staff can focus on students—not billing codes.
One request, please forward this message to your district’s MA Coordinator. Your help in sharing this update will make sure everyone who needs the information is in the loop.
Thank you for your continued support and trust in SpEd Forms. We value our partnership and are committed to helping your district navigate these changes.
